Grand Circuit Basic Application Guidelines
For Pro Slow, Pro Fast and Shorties
- Select a clean, dry, quiet space to work with adequate ventilation or wear a vapor mask.
- Remove all damaged and/or discolored wall. (It is recommended that you use a dremmel tool for this procedure.)
- Rough surrounding repair area with coarse sanding drum or dremmel tool.
- Apply tape (elasticon or 1” adhesive tape with vet wrap) to protect coronet band and hair.
- Spray area to be patched and surrounding area with acetone cleaner, scrubbing vigorously paying particular attention to any slow drying areas. Several applications of spray are recommended. A slow drying area is an indication of a crack or separation in hoof wall and requires further attention.
- Scrub vigorously 3 to 5 minutes while irrigating with acetone. This step is extremely important!!
- Dispense Grand Circuit Adhesive equivalent to length of mixing tip until a slight color change is apparent. Discard.
- After color change, dispense in a plastic cup the approximate amount of Grand Circuit Adhesive required to make repair.
- Using Acid Brush prime small amount of adhesive in area to be patched.
- Immediately use Tongue Depressor to apply adhesive to area being repaired.
- When Grand Circuit Adhesive is set, shape as desired with dremmel using a coarse sanding drum or rasp.
- Repeat Step 6. The foot MUST be kept clean at this point.
- It is recommended at this time that Spectra reinforcing cloth be applied.
- Cut Spectra folded to 45 degrees to approximate the shape of repair leaving ½” to ¾” overlap onto sound wall.
- Using Compression Roller, roll adhesive into cloth until total saturation is achieved.*
- Apply small amount of Grand Circuit Adhesive with gloved hand to area
- Apply cloth to area, smoothing with your gloved hands.
- Immediately wrap with vapor proof wrap and cover with vet wrap rolling patch with smooth roller.
- When Grand Circuit Adhesive is set (approximately 10 minutes or when heat is no longer apparent) smooth edges with fine sander being care not to cut the fibers over the crack.
- Clean excess off sole with dremmel defining hoof wall.
*Steve’s Tip: Using an 8 x 10 clip board, slit the sides of a Ziploc® bag clamping the bottom under the clip. Apply a small amount of Grand Circuit Adhesive on the bottom sheet. Place cut Spectra on top of Grand Circuit Adhesive, then another small amount of Grand Circuit Adhesive on top of the Spectra. Close the top sheet of the cut Ziploc®.
